This course was best summed up by the words of its designer, Pete Dye, who said, “Golf is not a fair game, so why build a course fair?” Since it was established in 1986, the course has been recognized as one of golf’s ultimate challenges. We are talking about a course where the 16th hole is a 571-yard par 5, with a huge greenside bunker that is 18 feet deep. Can you imagine being caught in an 18-foot bunker? It’s a rush.

That’s the beauty of the Stadium Course. It can be frustrating, but it forces you to attempt extremely difficult shots, and sometimes they result in something truly magnificent. That’s why the course has inspired so many magical golf moments, such as Lee Trevino’s hole-in-one to win the $175,000 carryover skin in the 1987 Made for TV Skins Game.
